For demonstrating what becomes possible when marketing infrastructure is repurposed for an urgent human need—transforming connected screens, media partnerships and geo-targeting into a real-time system designed to help find missing children faster.

How It Makes a World of Difference

More than 18,000 children were reported missing in Germany in 2024. Yet Germany lacked a nationwide alert system comparable to Amber Alert, leaving families and authorities without a way to mobilize the public quickly and at scale.

Screen2Save began with a strikingly simple question: If the traditional public-safety infrastructure didn’t exist, could the media infrastructure already surrounding people become the alert system instead?

Free2move had more than 500 vehicles in major German cities equipped with digital screens in their rear windows. Initiative Vermisste Kinder already worked closely with police and families of missing children. MEDIAPLUS connected those capabilities with a broader network of media partners.

When a missing-child report is submitted and confirmed by police, an alert can be generated and distributed to Free2move’s in-car screens, retail media networks and social platforms. Geo-targeting initially concentrates the alert where it is most relevant; if the child remains missing, the radius can expand automatically.

Screen2Save extends verified missing-child alerts beyond connected vehicles into a wider, geo-targeted media network.

And I think this is exactly where the mobile image belongs. We’ve just shown the reader the car in the header. Here they discover that the car isn’t the idea in its entirety—it is one node in something much larger.

Rather than building an entirely new communications infrastructure, Screen2Save connected media channels that already existed and turned them toward a different purpose. Media owners and partners contributed inventory, allowing the network to operate without a traditional media budget.

The Difference Marketing Made

Marketing didn’t simply raise awareness about missing children. It created a new way to look for them.

That distinction is what makes Screen2Save such a powerful expression of Marketing Makes a World of Difference™.

The assets of marketing were already there: screens, audiences, targeting technology, automation, media inventory and partnerships. Screen2Save changed what those assets were capable of doing.

An advertising screen became an emergency alert.

Geo-targeting became a way to concentrate public attention where it might matter most.

A network built to distribute commercial messages became a network capable of distributing urgent information about a missing child.

The media wasn’t simply carrying the campaign. The media became part of the solution.

And something meaningful happened because marketing got involved: an infrastructure designed to capture attention was transformed into one capable of mobilizing it.

Results That Make a Difference

Within weeks, Screen2Save generated more than 137 million impressions across DOOH, social, television, CTV, print and retail media, despite operating with no traditional media budget. The website attracted 1.5 million visits in two weeks, while the resulting network had the capacity to reach more than 9.58 million people within 24 hours.

But the numbers that matter most aren’t media numbers.

In the initiative’s first reported case, an alert for a missing child named Kimberly was distributed through Screen2Save and she was found safe four hours later. The entry reports that additional missing children have subsequently been safely reunited with their families.

I would not say Screen2Save caused those reunifications—we don’t have evidence for that causal claim. The stronger and more credible point is that the system was operating in the real world, putting urgent information into circulation when it mattered.

And perhaps that is the most important result of all.

Screen2Save didn’t create another campaign about a social problem. It created something that could become part of the response.
